How to Tell if Your Vape Cartridge is Safe

Back in September, we addressed the influx of lung illnesses attributed to illicit vape products. Our desire has always been to provide safe, effective alternatives to traditional medicine through the various cannabis products we carry. We pride ourselves on working with reputable brands who are committed to quality ingredients, accurate dosing and, above all, the safety of those using the products. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
But how can you tell if your vape cartridge IS safe? It’s important to educate yourself so you understand what is safe, what isn’t, and what is just paranoia perpetuated by the good ole’ internet.

We’re here to help you navigate those waters so you can tell if your vape products are safe!

What additives are dangerous?

Vitamin E Acetate, Propylene Glycol (PG), Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) and Vegetable Glycerin (VG)

There has been a general lack of regulation in the vaping industry, which has resulted in companies having to self-regulate. Obviously, some companies have been doing a very poor job at this. In an effort to cut costs, some companies have used fillers like PG, VG and PEG in their cartridges. While these additives, as well as Vitamin E Acetate, are safely used in other industries, including beauty products, they are not safe for vaping. The brands we work with do NOT include these additives in their vape cartridges, as they prioritize the safety of their customers, just like we do!

I’ve heard fractionated coconut oil is bad for me. Is that true?

Some companies, like FeelCBD, use fractionated coconut oil in their vape cartridges. To avoid having to heat the oil to dangerous temperatures, which would cause it to become carcinogenic, FeelCBD chooses to “use Fractionated Coconut Oil to create a thinner oil formulation, that allows us to work with our manufacturer and create a custom device that heats the oil to a temperature lower than the majority of vaporizers in the market.” This keeps you and your lungs safe!

I also heard that fractionated coconut oil causes lipid pneumonia. Is that true?

No. But first, what is lipid pneumonia? Lipoid pneumonia is a specific form of lung inflammation (pneumonia) that develops when lipids (fat molecules) enter the lungs.

Because fractionated coconut oil has completely distilled out all the long-chain triglycerides, our bodies treat it like a carbohydrate and not a lipid. This means our bodies do not need to produce bile salts and other digestive enzymes to help break it down for absorption.

Does temperature matter?

It sure does! A lot of e-cigarettes and elicit vaporizers on the market showcase this giant plume of smoke, which is often what comes to mind when someone thinks of vaping. In reality, the huge cloud of smoke is actually indicative of the oil being heated to a dangerous temperature. The vape pens that we carry ensure that the lowest temperature possible is used, without compromising the effectiveness of the delivery system.

Why vaping?

Given all the misinformation being perpetuated, we understand you may be hesitant to try or continue vaping. Vaporizing provides the “quickest onset for achieving the benefits of cannabis, with a bioavailability close to double that of oral ingestion”. For someone who is suffering from chronic mental or physical illness, this can be life changing. Which is why we will continue offering high quality, safety first vape pens and cartridges.

If you’re someone who doesn’t enjoy vaping to begin with, we still have plenty of other great options for you! Check out our tinctures HERE, edibles HERE or all of our amazing products HERE.
