When we hear the words “Magic Mushrooms” or “Psilocybin” we can almost always associate them with tripping or hallucinating. But what if Psilocybin mushrooms weren’t just used for tripping? It’s become more and more common that people use psilocybin as a form of alternative medicine because of the amazing benefits and outcomes that can come out of taking psilocybin. Although consuming this psychedelic in large quantities does cause a person to experience a trip, when taken in microdoses over a period of time is said to bring a more positive, and creative outlook to life.
We’ve talked previously about how to microdose psilocybin, and how important finding a happy medium to Psilocybin is. When microdosing you want to be able to feel the full beneficial effects of psilocybin, while being able to function normally throughout your day.
We recommend starting with a very low dose, so you’re able to gauge how your body reacts to psilocybin. A low dose starts at 125mg, and if you feel that you may want to increase the effects slightly, or you’re not feeling the desired effects of the psilocybin, we recommend an increase in dose to 250mg. The maximum dose we recommend as a microdose is between 0mg to 500mg, but much like the rule to dosing cannabis, you want to start low and go slow.
Anything above a dose of 500mg is said to potentially start a tripping experience for some. If you desire to try a dose larger than 500mg, we recommend being in a comfortable environment with someone you’re very comfortable with. This will ensure that you can have a safe and relaxing trip experience, while having someone there with you as a “trip sitter”. We are not promoting this though, we are promoting the benefits of microdosing.
The commonly talked about benefits of microdosing psilocybin include an increase in creativity and productivity, as well as a decrease in anxiety and depression. We’ve discussed these benefits previously, but what are some of the benefits of microdosing that aren’t as commonly discussed?
Microdosing is said to bring an improvement in self efficacy, meaning in addition to the increase in productivity and motivation you feel while microdosing, confidence and self-care has also shown to increase. People find they take more time out for themselves when microdosing, treating themselves to things such as meditation or a relaxing bath. There are also said to be a number of social benefits that aren’t as commonly discussed, such as extraversion, a sense of connection with others and a more verbal fluency. It sharpens the mind to ensure you’re focused and ready for the day ahead, while being able to communicate with others easier. In addition to social benefits, there are cognitive benefits as well which include better problem solving skills as well as the ability to think clearer and not feel as foggy in the brain.
There are physiological enhancements as well when taking psilocybin in smaller doses. These benefits include an increase in sleep quality, cardiovascular endurance, and reduced migraine and headache frequency.
Beginning to microdose may seem like a daunting task. Trying to find the happy medium with psilocybin takes time and some trial and error. Start very slow in your dose. We recommend creating a schedule for your microdose. Start out by microdosing every three days, that is taking 125 mg of psilocybin on day one, and then again on day four. Once you’re able to see how your body reacts to this dose, you may wish to increase it to 250mg every three days.
A good way to begin microdosing is getting used to taking your psilocybin in the mornings with your vitamins! It’s a great way to start your day to ensure you’re completely focused and sharp minded for your hectic day ahead. It also keeps your microdose on a schedule, making sure you don’t miss a microdose. In addition to keeping your microdosing on a schedule, documenting your microdosing journey in a journal is a great way to make sure you’re keeping track of the way you feel. It’s good to keep track of what’s working and what isn’t to make sure you can achieve that happy medium in your brain.
